Get past the video

I have a message to those who are controlling the education system of The United States of America.

Alright, take a breath. This a bit of an old movie, and things have definitely changed since those times. So since things have changed, the message will change a  bit too. Instead of being directed to the teachers, I am directing this to those in charge of the education system.

Why? Because I’ve made it a policy through out my childhood and my entire school life to get to know the teachers outside of the workplace. Not only did it enrich my experience, ease the tensions of being an outcast of the student body, and make it easier to get accommodations for the areas that I lacked…but it gave me insights into the hard work a teacher does. I see the large stacks of papers they have to sort through, I see the effort into getting the students the help needed, and I see the stress and despair they get when it seems like their students just aren’t getting it.

I don’t blame them, they’re attempting to work with what they are given.

And each year it seems, they are given less and less money for supplies and more and more stress.

Education system, what are you doing?

The children have always been and will continue to be the future, yet you’ve got accountants running shit and being cheap. They buy the cheapest and crappiest food. Students who are under nourished can’t concentrate. You are lessening the budget the schools can work with. Not only do they need new supplies because books wear down, computers get better and better, white boards stop being able to be erased…but buildings themselves need to be maintained. they need to be fixed so they don’t break down and look shabby, and occasionally they may need a fresh coat of paint or add on a section.

But if they don’t have the money, things get neglected. Children who feel neglected and not cared about won’t care about doing better. they’ll just be depressed and stressed by their surroundings. Come on, it’s proven that a person’s environment effects them.

On top of that, you’re all insane.

Editted in: for some reason, even though it’s considered a higher form of education that you may or may not be paying out of pocket for, the teachers at college do not need a teaching certificate- but a highschool teacher does.

Also, for some odd reason, even though a highschool teacher is taught the many ways of teaching someone, they still manage to make their classes boring as hell. Perhaps there should be more research (or a presentation made using existing research) on how fun makes learning easier.

Help save the world, plant a garden – Seriously

http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/17/opinion/spivak-loss-of-bees/

Over 70% of our crop food is pollinated by bees. The simple math here is that if bees die out, chances are, we’re going to die out too.

What’s killing them? Well…parasites, pesticides, and lack of food. By pretending that the only ecosystem that exists is the agricultural farm in some form of isolation – humans, plants and bees, and stupidly using kill alls for the pests to bog down productions, we’re killing our most important assets. (plus starvation and pesticides severly lower their ability to remain healthy)

Those pesticide your using to kill off cabbage moths and worms in your apples, is also poisoning your much needed pollinators, and by growing your crop in such open spaced and limited conditions, you’re limiting their food and effectively starving them. Your acres and acres of flowering almond trees with neatly trimmed grass in between might be the bee equivalent of a slumyard. After all, flowers can only really be visited so often before becoming useless…and don’t you want the flowering to stop at some point, so that the tree (or other crop) can focus on developing their fruit? I know that’s what my dad’s taught me to do with the tomatoes in the late summer. Now suddenly, they’re out of food and have to travel further and further away from the houses that you set up of them. And you wonder why established bee houses across the country are suddenly turning up empty. Wouldn’t you move if you could?

You want farms to be productive? Don’t just care for the crops short-term. Care for the soil, water, air,and insects that everything /actually/ depends on.

And of course, what the average person can do is to plant things to attract and feed the bees. I suggest a variety of plants that bloom throughout the year – broccoli is a pretty flower that blossums in late summer and fall, when most flowers are done already. Bees will flock to these plants, and appreciate the extra food.
